TIGCR and the Center for Survey Research (RCHSS), Academia Sinica held the 2021 International Conference on Survey Research Methodology: Challenges and New Frontiers of Survey Methods on September 2-3. In view of the development of times and the transformation of our social structure, various innovative methodologies for data collection were brought forth in the workshop. For the topic of “ Challenges and New Frontiers of Survey Method,” Dr. Frauke Kreuter of the University of Munich, Germany, an important scholar from the related field, was specially invited to deliver a keynote speech titled “Combining Data from Multiple Sources: Examples from Economic and Public Health Research Studies.” The content of the speech focused on recent developments and future trends of data collection methods.
Beginning at the end of 2019, the COVID-19 pandemic has continuously spread worldwide, imposing severe challenges on face-to-face survey plans in many countries. As a result, a forum on “Coping Strategies of Survey Projects under COVID-19” was specially organized during the workshop. For this, Dr. Yashwant Deshmukh, Asia President of World Association for Public Opinion Research (WAPOR), Dr. Jill Sheppard, Australian National University, Dr. Wei-Dong Wang, Renmin University of China, School of Sociology and Population Studies, and Professor Chi Huang, Director of the TIGCR. in the forum, Director Chi Huang delivered a speech on “Conducting Survey during the COVID-19 Pandemic: Experience of TIGCR-PPS 2021.” The four scholars shared their strategies and practical experiences in conducting surveys, particularly in the post-pandemic era.
